Royal Gorge Route Railway
Established in 1879, The Royal Gorge Route Railroad combines Colorado history, spectacular scenery, and unique dining options on a leisurely 24-mile journey through the breathtaking Royal Gorge. With a choice of five classes of service, the train offers an unforgettable Colorado experience in every price range. The Royal Gorge scenic train has been called the “most arresting scenic train in all of railroading.”
Royal Gorge Helicopter tours
Fly through the Royal Gorge in a jet helicopter. This is a wild adventure and not for the timid! Seats up to 7 passengers and is also available for charter. Fly to Cripple Creek for the day or overnight.
Holy Cross Abbey & Winery
Canon City’s own vineyard! The Holy Cross Abbey was once a functional monastery complete with real Monks. This is also the former site of the old “Boys Boarding School.”The Abbey is rich in history and is a great lodging option for church groups, scout troops, and school groups as it offers several lodging options and meal plans.

Royal Gorge History Museum
Located in Canon City at the corner of 6th & Royal Gorge Blvd., This museum offers exhibits and research materials that portray and interpret the history of the region and its people. The museum is located in the former municipal building built in 1927. Be sure to see “Turn up the Volume: the History of the Phonograph,” one of the largest phonograph and Victrola exhibits anywhere.
Museum of Colorado Prisons
This museum is located in Canon City next to the Territorial Prison, the first prison ever built in Colorado. Learn more about Colorado’s prison history in a former women’s prison operated by the State of Colorado. Exhibits include the last gas chamber and the hangman’s noose.
