Royal Gorge History Museum

Located in Canon City at the corner of 6th & Royal Gorge Blvd., This museum offers exhibits and research materials that portray and interpret the history of the region and its people. The museum is located in the former municipal building built in 1927. This museum is located in Canon City next to the Territorial Prison, the first prison ever built in Colorado. Learn more about Colorado’s prison history in a former women’s prison operated by the State of Colorado. Exhibits include the last gas chamber and the hangman’s noose.
